The pupils of St Cecilia’s proudly wear the colours of the old school and it is a step back in time when you witness the wearing of the maroon and gold. Even more important is the news that the Schools plays rugby in each year. When Chris Brown and I met with Chris Bishop the Head of PE, we were keen to discuss the establishment of an H. Raymond King Award in honour of HRK.
The welcome we had this time was somewhat different to my original contact with the school and the then Headmaster. Rugby did not exist and the effort to link up through the memory of HRK a non-starter.
In recent times St Cecilia’s students have excelled at rugby with one receiving a rugby scholarship and many more are playing mini ruby with local clubs including Ironsides. We are at the stage when St Cecilia’s younger players may one day carry a Wandsworth badge on the arm of their shirts.
