Third Year Graphic Design Student at Loughborough University

Thank you to the Old Wandsworthians Trust for providing me with a generous grant which has helped me to fund my 2nd year at Loughborough University. This second year studying Graphic Design has been a costly but a very valuable one.

During the 2nd term we had a compulsory study trip to San Francisco. This was an incredible week. Whilst exploring this amazing city, we undertook research and gathered material for our dissertation proposal and final 2nd year project. The vibe of the city was exciting, buzzing at all hours and the cultural and historical elements of San Francisco such as the architecture, the street art and graffiti, the trams and cable cars, and of course the famous San Francisco landmarks including Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge were all so interesting and unique, it would be hard to find anywhere else like it. This, as well as the many galleries we visited, provided me with great material for my future work, influencing my thoughts and ideas for our “Visual Culture” module as well as my creativity for the practical projects.

Without the help the Old Wandsworthians gave towards the funding of this trip, the essential research that was carried out would not have been possible.

The money was also used for living costs towards my student house in Loughborough. This was the first year I lived in a house rather than halls. Sharing the house with eight other university students proved to be a challenge when it came to organising payments (as well as keeping the house in a liveable state!) so the extra money helped me pay my share of the monthly bills.

Many thanks for helping me through the year, I can now look forward to my final year after being able to achieve great 2nd year results.
